Teaching About Africa Through Exploring A Day In The Life Of An African Child
Jeh Kulu Dance and Drum Theater presents its fourth annual interdisciplinary professional development workshop for  educators. Come enjoy a day of hands on activities, multi-media presentations and discussions on the life of a West African child. Learn about the importance of academic schooling, music, religion, community, apprenticeships, namesakes, and more from primary sources. Learn about the challenges facing refugee students here in Vermont. Workshop participants will also have the opportunity to learn traditional West African dance and drum from master artists of Guinea and Senegal, West Africa, and to hand-make a replica of a traditional Malian instrument. The day will include presentations by licensed Vermont educators Moudou N'Dione of Warren Elementary School and Stowe Middle School. Sue Blethen,Bijoux Bahati, and Olivia Balama of Burlington High School, Autumn Bangoura of Crossett Brook Middle School, and Jeh Kulu member Craig Myers. The day of hands-on workshops, presentations, and discussion will conclude with a brief performance demonstration by Jeh Kulu. Come join us for a rich day of music, culture, and learning!
